Spirited Away – Free film screening, Saturday 18th May

This will be the first full-length outdoor screening of a film in the history of Brockwell Park and the “… ‘jewel in the crown’ of the Herne Hill Free Film Festival 2013 programme”.

Waiting until darkness falls the screening will take place in the heart of the unlit park so you are asked to bring torches and your own chairs, rugs or cushions. Use the Herne Hill gate entrance (Dulwich Rd/Norwood Rd, nearest the station) and stewards with torches will help you find your way safely to the slopes near the Walled Garden where the screening will take place. We expect the skies to be dark enough for the film to commence at around 8.50pm.

The screening is free and there is no need to book but arrive early to get a good spot and don’t be shy of the MAD for Brockwell Park and the Herne Hill Film Festival collection buckets out and about for donations to help fund future free events. The park cafe will be opening late for drinks and refreshments and there will also be food stalls.

Read more about the film and the Herne Hill Free Film Festival at the free film festivals website. To volunteer to be one of the stewards (at this or any other of our events) contact volunteer@brockwellpark.com.

Five Parks Walk – Sunday 12 May

Starting in Brockwell Park, the walk takes you through the south London neighbourhoods of Herne Hill, Camberwell, Dulwich, and Sydenham via a surprisingly green and leafy route through five parks linked by a corridor of green ways and little known woodland.

The total distance is seven and a half miles and takes approximately three hours if you walk at normal pace. Alternatively, take your time and stop at any of the charming hostelries along the route and you can stretch it out as long as you like.

The walk is a fund-raiser to support our summer programme in Brockwell Park this summer. 2nd hand books, t-shirts and other park ephemera will be on sale.

5 Parks Walk is back! Can you help make it a success, as usual?

Five Park Walk PosterThis year’s walk is on Sunday 12th May starting at 9.00 am; we wind up around 3.00 pm. The Walk itself starts at 10.00 and the Guided Walk at 10.30.
We need volunteers for the start/finish point stall and for the “stamping points” in each of the Parks. The stamping points, where people get their walking instructions stamped to prove that they have been there, are in Belair Park, Sydenham Hill Woods, Dulwich Park and Ruskin Park.
If you would like to take part please contact Ann Kingsbury with the times you can do, any preference for your stamping point, whether you would like to bring a friend/s (friends are welcome) or if you would like to lead the guided walk!

There may well be an informal briefing session in a local pub on an evening before the event. Ann can be reached on 07949 829 865 or annkingsbury@yahoo.co.uk

Support MAD for Brockwell Park and advertise your business

We produce a double-sided full-colour printed diary of all our events in the park and distribute 20,000 copies to homes around the park and at all our events – we sell ad spaces on the diary to help cover the costs.

Most slots in this year’s diary have been taken by previous advertisers but there are a few still available at £175 for a 50mm x 25mm full colour ad. We will also acknowledge your support on this site and can provide a link to your website if you wish.

To secure a space we will need your money and artwork (see BP Ad Spec 2013) by the 19th February 2013. Contact Matt Allgood (Treasurer) for payment details and the talented Pete Gibbons with your artwork.

Our thanks in advance for your support!
